ACRYLIC, also known as polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), is a transparent thermoplastic. It is widely used as a replacement for glass because acrylic is significantly more impact-resistant than glass. It can be finished in a variety of ways, including sanding, polishing, and carving, and can be shaped into a wide range of forms.
Characteristics
ACRYLIC is distinguished by its exceptional transparency and excellent electrical insulating properties. It offers outstanding weather resistance, maintaining its properties virtually unchanged even after prolonged exposure to outdoor conditions, and is also dishwasher safe. It has a hardness comparable to that of non-ferrous metals such as copper, along with mechanical strength up to six times greater than that of glass. Its density is 1.20 g/cm³, making it slightly denser than water.
